Hong Kong University of Science and Technology R and D Corporation Limited (RDC or the Company) is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST or the University). Since the inception of the Company in 1992, it has been serving as the vehicle for knowledge transfer activities of the University.  The Company provides contractual, financial and administrative support for managing contract research, intellectual property licensing, and entrepreneurship-related activities. Redbird Innovation Fund Limited is a subsidiary of RDC, dedicated to managing the HKUST Redbird Innovation Fund (RIF).


Job Description

Reporting to the Head (Investment Fund Management), the appointee will provide flexible, value-added analytical and administrative resources to support the management of the HKUST Redbird Innovation Fund (RIF), a dedicated investment fund established for the start-up ecosystem of HKUST, We aim to develop and identify exceptional personnel assisting the investment team in operation, investment evaluation, portfolio management and reporting, and assisting senior on the board level matters and other internal processes. Key responsibilities include: 

Responsibilities:

•    Investment Operation

Provide comprehensive support to internal committees and meetings by coordinating and managing meetings, facilitating effective communication and meticulous documentation, developing work plan and timeline management plans, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, ensuring timely execution of decisions and actions based on meeting outcomes, collecting data from other units and prepare various reports, executive summaries, meeting materials, such as papers, and presentations for internal and committee meetings, and other units of the University.

•    Investment Evaluation

Conduct market and technology research and identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities. Perform comprehensive due diligence on potential start-ups. Prepared detailed investment memo, financial models, and other relevant documentation to support investment recommendations. Support transaction execution and negotiation with internal and external parties.

•    Portfolio Management

Manage a diversified portfolio of early-stage start-ups and venture capital fund investments. Monitor portfolio performance and implement risk management strategies and recommend appropriate portfolio adjustments based on market conditions and investment performance. Provide financial, operational and strategic advice to portfolio companies to assist with their business growth.

•    Reporting and Documentation

Prepare regular reports on portfolio performance and investment activities for internal committees. Liase with external stakeholders and manage funding programs, ensuring effective communication, proper documentation, and efficient workflow. Ensure compliance with reporting standards and internal policies. Perform important administrative processes (e.g. investment pipelines database management and reporting, portfolios database management).

•    Other

Perform other duties as assigned to facilitate the management of RIF.
 

 

Requirements

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or above in the area of finance, science, engineering, business or related discipline with at least 2 years of post-qualification work experience, preferably in investment, financial and market analysis for venture capital investments, or management of technology start-ups. Detail-oriented, self-motivated and a good team player; strong Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills; strong understanding of technology industry and financial market research, presentation development; excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills and be able to communicate and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders; ability to work independently and competence at multi-tasking; excellent command of oral and written English and Chinese (including Putonghua) are required.

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
