Hong Kong University of Science and Technology R and D Corporation Limited (RDC or the Company) is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST or the University). Since the inception of the Company in 1992, it has been serving as the vehicle for knowledge transfer activities of the University.  The Company provides contractual, financial and administrative support for managing contract research, intellectual property licensing, and entrepreneurship-related activities. Redbird Innovation Fund Limited is a subsidiary of RDC, dedicated to managing the HKUST Redbird Innovation Fund (RIF).

Reporting to the Head (Investment Fund Management), the appointee will hold a unique hybrid role critical to our dual mission of running an efficient early-stage grant program, Technology Start-up Support Scheme for Universities (TSSSU), and supporting direct venture investments. This position is designed as a career gateway into venture capital, offering a structured path from operational mastery to investment analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for building, managing, and streamlining the administration of TSSSU program while receiving direct mentorship to support the evaluation and management of investments for the HKUST Entrepreneurship Fund (E-Fund) and Redbird Innovation Fund (RIF).

Job Description

Key responsibilities include: 

  • 1.    TSSSU Management & Operations
    •    Own end-to-end administration of the TSSSU program and act as primary liaison for grant recipients and stakeholders.
    •    Design and implement tech-driven processes to automate tracking, reporting, and compliance.

    2.    Portfolio & Investment Support
    •    Assist in monitoring performance of direct venture capital investments and fund-of-funds portfolios.
    •    Prepare portfolio reports and support transaction execution and portfolio company engagements.
    •    Coordinate investment committee logistics, documentation, and follow-up actions.

    3.    Investment Evaluation & Analysis
    •    Conduct market and technology research to identify and screen potential investment opportunities.
    •    Support due diligence, financial analysis, and preparation of investment committee materials.
    •    Maintain accurate databases for the investment pipeline and portfolio companies.

 

Requirements

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or above in the area of finance, science, engineering, business or related discipline with at least 2 years of post-qualification work experience, preferably in investment, financial and market analysis for venture capital investments, or management of technology start-ups. 

Detail-oriented, self-motivated and a good team player; strong Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills; strong understanding of technology industry and financial market research, presentation development; excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills and be able to communicate and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders; ability to work independently and competence at multi-tasking; excellent command of oral and written English and Chinese (including Putonghua) are required.

(Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of the contract.
